Friends of Chappell is excited to announce that our school has been awarded a $2,800 grant from Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation for upgrades to our school's garden! Chappell is one of 592 schools across the country to be awarded a Lowe's Toolbox for Education grant for improvement projects, and we couldn't be more proud.
Thanks to this grant, the Friends of Chappell partnered with the Gardeneers, a nonprofit organization, to rebuild and beautify our school's atrium garden. A group of 15 parent and community volunteers raised four flower beds, removed all of the dirt and debris, and thanks to Chappell parent, Seth Keller, rebuilt the beds which are ready for students to fill and plant this fall.
Chappell's gardening program is beginning its third year with Gardeneers. The nonprofit organization provides curriculum support and garden maintenance, and complements and strengthens the existing school curriculum through garden education. Lesson plans and activities include hands-on gardening lessons, discussions, arts and crafts and games centered around nutrition, community and environmental stewardship.
Together with Lowe's, your generous support of Friends of Chappell helps fund this important and worthwhile program at our school.
